Oil Pan: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Remove engine undercover and drain engine oil.

2. Remove steel oil pan bolts in reverse order, Fig. 16.
3. Insert suitable tool between steel and aluminum oil pans, then slide tool by tapping slide with hammer and remove steel oil pan. Do not use screwdriver and be careful not to damage aluminum mating surface.
4. Remove oil strainer, then the front exhaust tube and support.
5. Place suitable transmission jack under transaxle and lift engine with slinger.
6. Remove crankshaft position sensors.
7. Remove front and rear engine mounting nuts and bolts, then the center member.
8. Remove drive belts, then the A/C compressor and bracket.
9. Remove rear cover plate.

10. Remove aluminum oil pan bolts in reverse order, Fig. 17.
11. Remove transaxle bolts.
12. Insert suitable tool between cylinder block and aluminum oil pans, then slide tool by tapping slide with hammer and remove aluminum oil pan. Do not use screwdriver and be careful not to damage aluminum mating surface.
13. Remove baffle plate and cylinder block O-rings.


INSTALLATION
1. Remove all traces of liquid gasket on oil pans and cylinder block mating surfaces.
2. Install baffle plate, then apply sealant to front cover and rear oil seal gaskets.
3. Apply continuous liquid gasket bead to aluminum oil pan mating surface and inner sealing surface.
4. Install O-rings and install aluminum oil pan, tightening bolts in order to specifications, Fig. 17.
5. Install transaxle bolts, rear cover plate, A/C compressor and bracket, drive belts, center member, front and rear engine mounting insulator nuts and bolts, crankshaft position sensors, front exhaust tube and support, and oil strainer.
6. Apply continuous liquid gasket bead to steel oil pan mating surface and install steel oil pan.






7. Tighten bolts in order to specifications,.
8. Wait at least 30 minutes before filling with engine oil.
