Service Procedure
1. Re-position the air intake duct to gain access to the throttle chamber.2. Remove the throttle chamber.
3. Remove the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) from the old throttle chamber and install it on the new throttle chamber. Do not completely tighten the TPS mounting screws at this time as the TPS will need to be adjusted later.
4. Remove two bolts and re-position the throttle cables/support bracket towards the engine room wall.
5. Remove the driver's side exhaust heat shield and the engine oil dipstick tube.
6. Install the new engine oil dipstick tube using the new bolt.
7. Install the new exhaust heat shield.
8. Remove the old vacuum fitting. Apply thread sealant (such as Permatex High Performance Thread Sealant # 565 P/N 999MP-AM002P or equivalent) to the new vacuum fitting threads, then install the new vacuum fitting in the intake collector making sure it is:
^ Tightened to 39.2 - 54.8 Nm (4.0 - 5.5 kg-m, 29 - 40 ft-lb)
^ Positioned as shown in Figure 2
9. Install the new throttle chamber using the new gasket. Tighten the throttle chamber mounting bolts as follows:
A. First, tighten the four throttle chamber mounting bolts in an "X" pattern to 9 - 11 Nm 0.9 - 1.1 kg-m, 6.5 - 8.0 ft-lb)
B. Then, tighten the four bolts in an "X" pattern to 18 - 22 Nm (1.8 - 2.2 kg-m, 13 - 16 ft-lb).
10. Install the new vacuum hose (with clamps) between the vacuum fitting and the throttle opener (see Figure 3).
NOTE:
^ Apply Canopus 13 oil (P/N 999MP-AJ000) in the ends of the hose before Installation
^ To ensure the hose is correctly installed and is not twisted, align the white dot on the hose with the white dot on the vacuum fitting (see Figure 3)
11. Install the new purge hose (with purge hose clip for 1996-97 P50) between the vacuum fitting and the purge control valve.
NOTE:
Apply Canopus 13 oil (P/N 999MP-AJ000) in the ends of the hose before installation.
12. Install the new tie wrap (if applicable) around the vacuum hose and the purge hose (see Figure 4). Once installed, cut off excess length of the tie wrap to avoid interference with other components.
13. Re-install the throttle cables/support bracket.
14. Re-install the air intake duct.
15. Install the new Vacuum Hose Wiring Diagram label (over the old one) on the underside of the front hood.
NOTE:
Clean the surface of the old label with Isopropyl alcohol and let it dry before applying the new label.
16. Check and adjust (if necessary) the base engine idle speed. Refer to the applicable Service Manual for the base engine idle speed adjustment procedure.
17. Adjust the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). Refer to the "Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) Adjustment Procedure" below.
