2001-2002 FRONTIER; ABS LIGHT "ON" CODE "FR LH SENSOR [OPEN]"
APPLIED VEHICLE(S):
2001 - 2002 Frontier (D22) V6 2WD
SERVICE INFORMATION
If an applied vehicle has;
^ the ABS warning light ON (continuously or intermittently), and
^ "FR LH SENSOR [OPEN]" is displayed in CONSULT - ABS - SELF-DIAGNOSIS,
Determine if the female pin terminals in the left front ABS wheel speed sensor connector have a loose fit (are making poor contact).
Use the service information in this bulletin to diagnosis and repair the vehicle if this incident should occur.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the left front ABS wheel speed sensor at the brown (E16) connector (see figure 1).
2. Check resistance through the left front ABS wheel speed sensor (spec 1.28-1.92 K ohms).
NOTE:
Be sure to use the correct size test pins when checking the resistance. Inserting probes or test pins that are too large may damage the connector.
3. If the resistance reading in step 2 is:
^ Within specification: Go to step 4.
^ Out of specification: Replace the sensor, then go to step 4.
4. Use a test gauge to check the pin fit of the female terminals in the wheel speed sensor connector (see figure 3).
NOTE:
The female terminals are in the sensor side of the connector.
^ Use the red OBD II connector test gauge (Kent-Moore J42992-4) or equivalent.
^ In ASIST: Pull up Nissan/Infiniti Connector and Terminal Pin Service Manual for pin fit testing instructions. (It's under - Info Tool Box - Tools and Equipment).
5. If the fit of the gauge into either of the female terminals is loose, replace them both.
^ If the female pin terminals are not loose (replacement is not necessary), this bulletin does not apply. Use the diagnostic information in the Service Manual to further investigate the incident.
^ The replacement female terminal is J-38751-91 and can be found in the OBD-II Connector kit.
^ Follow the pin replacement procedures in the Nissan/Infiniti Connector and Terminal Pin Service Manual, page 17 (RS Type, Water Proof Type). This manual is found in ASIST - Info Tool Box - Tools and Equipment.
^ These terminals have wire seals to prevent water entry. Move the seals up the wires, away from the terminals during soldering and while the connectors are hot. This will help prevent melting or damage to the seals.
6. After the repairs are completed, erase the self-diagnostic results stored in the control unit by touching "ERASE" on the CONSULT screen.
7. Check the ABS warning lamp for deactivation:
a. Drive the vehicle over 30 km/h (19 MPH) for at least one minute.
b. Confirm the ABS warning lamp remains "OFF".
8. Test the ABS in a safe area to verify that it functions properly.

CLAIMS INFORMATION
Submit a Primary Failed Part (PP) line claim using the claims coding table shown.
NOTE:
Reference the Tool Catalog Price List in ASIST. Pro-rate the individual connectors, terminals, retainers and/or seals used per this list, then multiply that pro-rated amount by 40% (dealer mark-up) to arrive at the claimable amount for the repair component(s) actually used. On your warranty claim, use either Part Category 720 ("Engine Electrical") or 791 ("Body Electrical") depending on where the connector(s) repaired were located.
