REAR DOOR GLASS RUN RUBBER STICKS OUT

IF YOU CONFIRM

A rear door glass run rubber (LH or RH) is loose (sticks out) as shown in Figure 1.




ACTION

Reattach the run rubber using 3MTM Automotive Adhesion Promoter and 3MTM Automotive Acrylic Plus Attachment Tape.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Pull the run rubber away from the body-less than 2 inches (50 mm) - so you can clean behind it.

CAUTION: Don't pull the run rubber too much.

If the run rubber is pulled back more than 2 inches (50 mm) in may be permanently deformed.




2. Remove the attachment tape shown in Figure 4.

NOTE: Early model vehicles may not have attachment tape. It may not have been installed at the factory.




3. Use a clean cloth and isopropyl alcohol to thoroughly clean the:

^ Back of the run rubber

^ Body panel

^ Run rubber seam

IMPORTANT: Make sure to clean thoroughly and completely.

Poor cleaning may cause a reoccurrence (come-back) of the incident.




4. Apply 3M Automotive Adhesion Promoter to the:

A. Body panel

B. Run rubber seam

C. Back of the run rubber

3M Automotive Adhesion Promoter is listed in the parts information.

NOTE: Make sure to clean off any excess promoter.




5. Let promoter dry for at least 2 minutes.

6. Cut a piece of 3M Automotive Acrylic Plus Attachment Tape.

^ Length: 1 inch (25mm)

^ Don't touch the adhesive surface.

^ 3M Automotive Acrylic Plus Attachment Tape is listed in the Part Information.




7. Bend/fold the piece of attachment tape you just cut as shown in Figure 8.

^ Adhesive side stuck to each other.

^ Tape backing side facing out.

^ Leave a 3/16 inch (5 mm) "lip".

^ Don't touch the adhesive surface.




8. Remove the tape backing from the shorter side of the attachment tape as shown in Figure 9.

^ Use the tape backing as a "handle" to hold the attachment tape while applying it to the vehicle.

^ Don't touch the adhesive surface.




9. Stick the attachment tape to the body as shown in Figure 10, and then remove the tape backing as shown in Figure 11.

^ The short side of the folded tape sticks to the body panel.

^ The 3/16 inch (5 mm) "lip" sticks to the run rubber seam.

^ The long side of the folded tape should be facing out towards the run rubber.




10. Press the run rubber against the attachment tape and hold pressure for 20 seconds.




11. Clean the repaired area with a clean cloth and isopropyl alcohol.
