TRANSFER CASE SHIFT INSPECTION
APPLIED VEHICLES:
2004 - 2010 Titan (A60)
2005 - 2010 Frontier (D40)
2005 - 2010 Xterra (N50)
2005 - 2010 Pathfinder (R51) with TX15B transfer case.
IF YOU CONFIRM
^ 4WD Shift indicator is flashing,
or
^ 4WD warning lamp is ON and 4WD shift indicator is OFF,
or
^ 4LO indicator lamp is flashing.
ACTION
Use the Transfer Shift Inspection Procedure in this bulletin before performing any repairs.

The purpose of ACTION (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire Service Procedure as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair.
TRANSFER SHIFT INSPECTION PROCEDURE
Perform the following inspection procedure before performing any repairs.
If, after this Inspection Procedure, the transfer case operates as designed, do not perform any additional repairs.
1. Turn the ignition OFF.
2. Turn the ignition ON and start the engine.
3. Let the engine idle for 5 minutes.
4. Shift the transfer case to 2WD.
5. Drive forward as follows:
a. Turn the steering wheel 90 to 180° from center to the right and drive forward 10 feet.
b. Turn the steering wheel 90 to 180° from center to the left and drive forward 10 feet.
c. Repeat a and b 3 times (turning the steering wheel a total of 6 times).
6. Drive backwards as follows:
a. Turn the steering wheel 90 to 180° from center to the right and drive backwards 10 feet.
b. Turn the steering wheel 90 to 180° from center to the left and drive backwards 10 feet.
c. Repeat a and b 3 times (turning the steering wheel a total of 6 times).
7. Drive forward as follows:
a. Turn the steering wheel 90 to 180° from center to the right and drive forward 10 feet.
b. Turn the steering wheel 90 to 180° from center to the left and drive forward 10 feet.
c. Repeat a and b 4 times (turning the steering wheel a total of 8 times).
8. Accelerate and stop as follows:
CAUTION:
Make use it is safe to perform this step.
a. Accelerate quickly with 1/2 throttle to 12 - 25 mph.
b. Then bring the vehicle to a stop using about 1/2 brake pedal application.
9. Check the transfer case operation (refer to the 4WD shift procedures in the Owners Manual).
^ If the transfer case operates as designed, no further action is necessary.
^ If the transfer case does not operate as designed, refer to the Service Manual for further diagnostic and repair information.
