INTRODUCTION

Nissan has determined that some 2007 model year Armada and Titan vehicles may have been equipped with TPMS sensors designed for the previous model year vehicle. The TPMS is functional and detects low tire pressure as designed. However, in some vehicles, this condition could, at some point, cause the low tire indicator lamp to illuminate even if the tire pressure is not low. The TPMS would continue to operate normally if reset.

To correct this potential condition, Nissan will conduct a Voluntary Service Campaign to inspect the valve stem cap to determine if the correct sensor is installed. If the incorrect TPMS sensors are found, Nissan will replace all four and initialize them to the Body Control Module (BCM) free of charge for parts or labor. If the correct TPMS sensors are found then no further action is required.

IDENTIFICATION NUMBER

Nissan has assigned identification number PB031 to this action. This number must appear on all communications and documentation of any nature dealing with this action.

NUMBER OF VEHICLES POTENTIALLY AFFECTED

The number of vehicles potentially affected is approximately 1,600

DEALER RESPONSIBILITY

Nissan recommends that dealers correct each vehicle falling within the range of this campaign that enters the service department. This includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by transient (tourist) owners and vehicles in a dealer's inventory.

Repair Overview

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Inspect Low Tire Pressure Warning Transmitter (TPMS Sensor) Valve Stems (Caps and Nuts)

1. Inspect the transmitter (sensor) valve stems (caps and nuts) to determine if the correct transmitters are installed - inspect all 4 wheels (see Figures 1 and 2).

Replace Low Tire Pressure Warning Transmitters (TPMS Sensors)

2. Lift the vehicle so that all four wheels are off the ground.

3. Mark each tire to indicate its location on the vehicle (i.e. right-front, left-front, right-rear, and left-rear)

^ Marking the tire will make sure the tire/wheel is reinstalled in the same location.

4. Remove all four wheels from the vehicle.

5. Mount the 1st wheel/tire assembly on the tire machine.

6. Use chalk to mark the tire at the location of the transmitter / valve stem.

^ The chalk mark can be used to make sure the tire is re-mounted in the same position.

7. Break only the outside tire bead at the location of the Low Tire Pressure Warning Transmitter.

NOTE:
Do not break the inside tire bead. If the tire to wheel location is moved, you will have to perform a wheel balance.

8. Remove the transmitter from the wheel.

9. Install new transmitter and new nut.

^ Transmitter P/N 40700-CK001

^ IMPORTANT:
You must use a new nut-P/N 40780-AR300-with the new transmitter.

^ Torque nut to:

5.5 N.m (0.56 kg-m, 49 in-lb)

10. Reseat the tire bead to the wheel.

^ Use the chalk mark you made in step 6 to make sure the tire is re-mounted in the same position on the wheel.

11. Inflate the tire to 35 psi.

12. Reinstall the wheel / tire assembly back on the vehicle in the same position it was removed from.

^ The tire should have been marked in step 3 to indicate right-front, left-front, right-rear, or left-rear.

13. Start the wheel nuts by hand.

14. Use a star pattern to tighten the wheel nuts.

^ Use a hand torque wrench to tighten the wheels.

^ To prevent wheel damage, tighten wheel nuts in 3 steps:

Step 1: 44 N.m (5 kg-m, 33 ft-lb)

Step 2: 88 N.m (10 kg-m, 66 ft-lb)

Step 3: Final torque 133 N.m (14 kg-m, 98 ft-lb)

15. Repeat steps 2 - 14 for the other 3 wheels.

Perform ID Registration Procedure

NOTE:
The following ID registration procedure should be performed away from other vehicles to prevent vehicle "cross-talking~. (Cross-talking is when the transmitter on the vehicle being worked on talks to the BCM of another vehicle not being worked on).

16. Connect CONSULT-II to the vehicle.

17. Turn the ignition ON.

18. Wait for "System Call to complete.

19. Select [BCM]

20. Page down and select [Air Pressure Monitor]

21. Select [Work Support]

22. Select [ID Register] and push [Start]

23. Register transmitters using the Transmitter Activation Tool (Tool Number J-45295):

a. Hold the tool against the Left-Front tire near the transmitter/ valve stem.

b. Press and hold the button DOWN until the parking lights flash 2 times.

^ This will take between 2 and 20 seconds.

c. Repeat steps a and b for the other three wheels in the following order:

Right-Front

Right-Rear

Left-Rear

24. Select [END] on the CONSULT-II.

25. Turn the ignition OFF.

26. Disconnect CONSULT-II from the vehicle.

27. Check the Low Tire Pressure Warning Lamp operation.

a. Ignition should be OFF for more than 10 seconds.

b. Turn the ignition ON.

c. Warning lamp should come ON for 1 second and then turn OFF.

28. Test drive the vehicle and make sure the Low Tire Pressure Warning Lamp stays OFF.
