Steering Gear Line (Right or Left)

^ Tools Required:
J 28467-500 Engine Support Fixture
- J 28467-90 Engine Support Fixture Adapters
- J 36462 Engine Support Adapter Leg

REMOVAL
Remove or disconnect the following:
1. Install the Engine Support Fixture, Engine Support Fixture Adapters, and Engine Support Adapter Leg.
2. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
3. Right and left front wheel and tire.

WARNING: Failure to disconnect intermediate shaft from rack and pinion stub shaft can result in damage to steering gear and/or intermediate shaft. This damage can cause loss of steering control which could result in personal injury.

CAUTION: Set steering shaft so block tooth on upper steering shaft is at the 12 o'clock position, wheels on vehicle are straight ahead and set ignition switch to "LOCK" position. Failure to follow these procedures could result in damage to the coil.

4. Intermediate steering shaft bolt at steering gear.
5. Right side engine splash shield.
6. Both tie rod ends from steering knuckles.
7. Exhaust pipe and catalytic converter.
8. Support rear of frame, use jack stands.
9. Both rear frame bolts and lower frame.
10. Steering gear heat shield.
11. Power steering lines clamp from steering gear.
12. Line from steering gear.

INSTALLATION
Install or connect following:
1. Line to steering gear.
2. Line clamp and lines to steering gear.
3. Steering gear heat shield.
4. Raise frame and align steering gear stub shaft to intermediate steering shaft.
5. Both rear frame bolts.
6. Remove frame jackstand.
7. Exhaust pipe and converter.
8. Both tie rod ends to steering knuckles.
9 Right side engine splash shield.

WARNING: When installing the intermediate shaft make sure the shaft is seated prior to bolt installation. If the bolt is inserted into the coupling before shaft installation, the two mating shafts may disengage.

CAUTION: Set steering shaft so block tooth on upper steering shaft is at the 12 o'clock position, wheels on vehicle are straight ahead and set ignition switch to "LOCK" position. Failure to follow these procedures could result in damage to the coil.

10. Intermediate shaft lower bolt.
^Tighten bolt to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
11. Both front wheel and tire.
12. Lower vehicle.
13. Remove the Engine Support Fixture, Engine Support Fixture Adapters, and Engine Support Adapter Leg.
14. Fill system.
^ Bleed power steering system.
^ Inspect for leaks.
