Center Support
1. Remove fourth clutch inner and outer oil seals.
2. Check case iron oil rings and remove from center support.
3. Check bushings for wear and oil passages for restriction.
4. Check piston sealing surfaces and center support for damage. Burrs or raised edges may be removed using fine stone or fine abrasive paper.
5. Install cast iron oil seal rings onto center support During installation of cast iron oil seal rings, ensure overlap and interlock. Ensure ends are flush with each other when interlocked.
6. Install direct clutch thrust into center support
7. Align center support with transmission case bolt holes and install center support.
8. Install center support to transmission case retaining bolts. Do not tighten or torque bolts.
9. Install center support to transmission case snap ring with beveled side facing upward.
10. Torque center support retaining bolts to 18 ft lbs (24 Nm).
11. Force forward clutch shaft downward and install tool No. J29337 or equivalent, onto forward clutch shaft.
12. Position a dial indicator and clamp assembly onto tool No. J29337, positioning dial indicator point onto top surface of tool.
13. Position tools No. J29332 and J25013-1 or equivalents, onto output shaft. Move output shaft up- ward by turning adjusting screw on tool No. J29332 until white or scribed line on tool No. J25013-1 sleeve begins to disappear and set dial indicator to zero.
14. Pull tool No. J29337 upward and read endplay. Front unit endplay should be 0.022-0.051 inch (0.56-1.3 mm). Selective washer controlling endplay is located between output shaft and forward clutch shaft. Refer to front unit endplay chart, for correct washer to be used.
15. Remove dial indicator, clamp assembly and tool No. J29337.
