Forward Clutch
1. Check Teflon oil seals, on forward clutch shaft for damage and free fit in oil grooves. Do not remove Teflon oil seals unless replacement is required.
2. Remove and check forward clutch thrust washer for damage.
3. Position forward clutch downward and remove snap ring.
4. Remove backing plate and clutch plates from forward clutch housing. Separate direct clutch plates and position in original order.
5. Check compositioned-faced, flat steel and backing plate for damage.
6. Using suitable tools, compress retainer and spring assembly and remove
snap ring.
7. Remove tools, retainer and spring assembly from forward clutch housing.
8. Check release spring retainer for distortion.
9. Remove forward clutch piston, outer and inner piston seals. Do not remove clutch apply ring from piston unless replacement is required.
10. Check forward clutch piston and apply ring assembly for damage. Check for free operation of check ball in forward clutch housing. Replace check ball if damaged.
11. Check forward clutch housing snap ring for damage and forward clutch shaft for restricted oil passages.
12. Check cup plug for damage. Replace as required.
13. Install clutch apply ring onto piston.
14. Install outer and inner oil seals onto piston with seal lips facing away from clutch apply ring.
15. Lubricate oil seals and install forward clutch piston, retainer and spring assembly.
16. Using suitable tools, compress retainer past snap ring groove and install snap ring.
17. Remove tools, lubricate and install forward clutch plates into forward clutch housing starting with waved steel plate and alternating from compositioned-faced plate to flat steel clutch plates.
18. Install backing plate with micro finish facing downward. Ensure compositioned-faced clutch plates turn freely.
19. Install thrust washer into forward clutch housing and secure onto forward clutch housing using a suitable lubricant
20. Install forward clutch shaft seal rings, if necessary and secure onto forward clutch shaft using a suitable lubricant.
