Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Description and Operation

DESCRIPTION
The transaxle assembly, see accompanying figures, is essentially a constant mesh design transmission, combined with a differential unit, which are assembled into a single case. The main components of these units are the transaxle case, clutch cover, input gear assembly, output gear assembly and differential assembly. The input shaft, output shaft and differential are supported by preloaded tapered roller bearings. The bearings are preloaded by selective shims installed under the bearing cups in the clutch housing. The final output gear an integral of the output shaft, turns the ring gear and differential assembly, thereby rotating the drive shafts which are attached to the front wheels.
