The electrically heated EFE--a wire grid heater mounted between the carburetor and intake manifold--is controlled by the ECM through the relay ground.
- EFE grid receives +12 volts from the ignition ON circuit.
- The ECM energizes the relay by supplying a ground path.

The ECM turns the EFE Grid ON when:
- Engine is below a given temperature
- Engine below a given load
