Manual Shaft & Parking Pawl

1. Position transmission with oil pan side up, then remove tool J-26958.

2. If necessary, remove manual shaft and parking linkage as follows:





a. Remove manual detent roller and spring assembly, see image.

b. Remove parking strut shaft retaining ring.

C. Grind about 3/4 inch from end of a No.4 easy out, then using easy out, remove parking strut shaft cup plug.

d. Using a sheet metal screw or No.3 easy out, remove parking strut shaft.





e. Remove parking lock spring, strut and lever, see image.

f. Remove parking lock cam.





g. Remove hex nut, then remove manual shaft and inside detent lever assembly, see image.

h. Inspect manual shaft to case seal for damage. If necessary, pry out manual shaft seal using a screwdriver.

i. Using a sheet metal screw or No.3 easy out, remove parking pawl shaft.

j. Remove parking pawl and return spring.
