SIL 86-25 Nov325 4L
SUBJECT: Transmission Oil Pan Leaks
Some 1982 and 1983 THM 325 4L transmissions may exhibit a transmission oil pan leak which is caused by an interference between the accumulator housing and the transmission oil pan.
Beginning late in March, 1983, all THM 325 4L transmissions were produced using a new accumulator housing (Figure # 1) to correct the interference condition.
When servicing any 1982 or 1983 THM 325 4L transmission for an oil pan leak, inspect for interference with the accumulator housing. (Figure # 2) If an interference exists with the accumulator housing, remove it and grind, or file a portion of the casting boss (Figure # 2, inset). When removing this material, use caution to avoid damaging the cup plug. Remove only a minimum amount of material to eliminate the interference with the transmission oil pan.
