Disassembly

Disassembly

NOTE: As each valve train is removed, place the individual valve train in the order that it is removed and in a separate location relative to its position in the valve body. None of the valves, bushings or springs are interchangeable; some roll pins are interchangeable. Remove all roll pins and retaining sleeves by pushing through from the rough cast surface side of the control valve assembly, except for the blind hole pins.

1. Position control valve assembly machined surface up with manual valve at top, see image, then remove one check ball, if still in place.

2. Remove manual valve from upper bore. Some of the roll pins have pressure against them. Hold a shop towel over the bore while removing the roll pin to prevent losing the bore plug, spring, etc.

3. Remove roll pin from upper left bore, then the 2-3 throttle valve bushing, spring, valve and shift valve. The throttle valve and spring may be inside the throttle valve bushing.

4. From next bore down, remove spring-retaining sleeve, valve bore plug and the T.V. modulator downshift valve and spring.

5. From the next bore down, remove the outer roll pin, then the 1-2 throttle valve bushing, spring and valve and the lo 1st/detent valve. The 1-2 throttle valve spring and valve may be inside the 1-2 throttle valve bushing. Remove the inner roll pin, then the lo 1st/detent valve bushing and the 1-2 shift valve.

6. From next bore down, remove spring-retaining sleeve, valve bore plug and the T.V. modulator upshift valve and spring.

7. From the next bore down, remove the roll pin, then the converter clutch throttle valve bushing, spring and valve and the converter clutch shift valve. The converter clutch throttle valve and spring may be inside the throttle valve bushing.

8. From the last bore down, remove the roll pin, the bore plug, then the lo/overrun clutch valve and spring. From this same bore, remove the inner-spring retaining sleeve, then the 3-2 control valve spring and valve.

9. From the upper right bore, remove the spring-retaining sleeve, then the T.V. limit valve spring and valve.

10. From the next bore down, remove the roll pin, then the 3-4 throttle valve bushing, spring, valve and shift valve. The 3-4 throttle valve and spring may be inside the throttle valve bushing.

11. From the next bore down, remove the roll pin, then the 4-3 control valve spring and valve.

12. From the next bore down, remove the spring-retaining sleeve and the valve bore plug, then the line bias valve and spring.

13. From the next bore down, remove the roll pin and bore plug, then the accumulator valve bushing, valve and spring. The accumulator valve and spring may be inside the bushing.

14. From the last bore, remove the outer roll pin from the rough casting side, then remove the throttle valve plunger bushing, plunger and throttle valve spring. Grind a taper to one end of a 49 drill, insert drill into inner roll pin and pull pin out of control valve body, see image. Remove throttle valve.
