The Mitsubishi starter, Fig. 1,is a gear reduction starter that has the solenoid shift lever mechanism enclosed in the drive end housing to protect them from exposure to road dirt, icing conditions and splash. They also have an an overrunning clutch type drive. The overrunning clutch is operated by a solenoid switch mounted to a flange on the drive end housing.
The solenoid is attached to the drive end housing by two screws and is serviced as an assembly only.
These motors use sealed bearings at either end of the armature shaft and on the pinion shaft.
