Compressor Does Not Operate

1. Check dome light fuse. If fuse is blown, replace fuse. If fuse blows again, check for shorts in orange wire between height sensor and fuse block. If wire is satisfactory, check other systems on the same fuse. If fuse is not blown, check gauge fuse. If fuse is blown, check compressor current draw. Refer to ``Compressor Current Draw, Pressure Output & Leak Down Test.'' If compressor is satisfactory, check for shorts in pink/black wire between fuse block and compressor relay, if circuit is satisfactory, check other systems on the same fuse. If gauge fuse is not blown, proceed to step 2.
2. With ignition ``On'' and engine ``Off,'' shift gear selector into reverse and cycle ignition ``Off'' then ``On,'' connect a suitable jumper wire from compressor relay yellow terminal to ground. If compressor does not operate, proceed to step 3. If compressor does operate, proceed as follows:
a. Raise and support rear of vehicle.
b. Using a suitable test light, check for 12 volts at terminal 6 of height sensor wiring harness. If no power exists, check for opens in orange wire between height sensor connector and dome light fuse. Repair as necessary.
c. Check for 12 volts at terminal 5 of height sensor harness. If no power exists, check for opens in light green wire between height sensor connector and back-up light switch. Repair as necessary.
d. Remove jumper wire from compressor relay if not previously removed then, check for 12 volts at terminal 3 of height sensor harness. If no power exists, check for opens in yellow wire between height sensor connector and compressor relay. Repair as necessary.
e. Using a suitable ohmmeter, check harness connector terminal 4 (black wire) for proper ground circuit. Repair any opens found.
f. Inspect electrical connector at height sensor. Ensure connector key is properly installed in sensor key way slot.
g. Check for proper height sensor, link and adjustment.
h. Check or replace height sensor. Refer to ``Height Sensor Operational Test.''
3. Using a suitable test light, probe green wire terminal at the compressor for 12 volts. If power exists, check compressor ground. If ground is satisfactory, check compressor performance, refer to ``Compressor Current Draw, Pressure Output & Leak Down Test.'' If power does not exist, check green wire from compressor to relay for opens. If circuit is satisfactory, check pink wire from fuse block to relay for opens. If circuit is satisfactory, replace compressor relay.
