Fourth Clutch Assembly
Disassembly1. Using tools J-23456-14 and J-29334-1, remove snap ring and the fourth clutch spring and retainer assembly.
2. Remove the fourth clutch piston, then the inner and outer seals.
Inspection
1. Inspect fourth clutch housing for cracks, porosity, raised edges or burrs. Remove raised edges or burrs using a fine stone.
2. Inspect piston-sealing surface for scratches and air. check oil passage to make sure it is opened and not interconnected.
3. Inspect the snap ring and the spring and retainer assembly for damage or distortion.
4. Inspect clutch plates for wear or burned appearance.
5. Inspect backing plate for damage.
Assembly
1. Install new inner and outer seals into housing with seal lips facing downward. Coat seals with petroleum jelly. The fourth clutch housing inner seal is identified by a white stripe.
2. Install fourth clutch piston and spring and retainer assembly into housing, then using tools J-23456-14 and J29334-1, compress assembly and install snap ring.
3. Install new fourth clutch housing to cover O-ring seal, if removed, see image.
4. Install fourth clutch housing and torque retaining bolts to specifications, see image.
