Oil Pump And Balancer Assembly:






REMOVAL
1. Remove oil pan.
2. Remove oil filter.

NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the balance shaft assembly to service the oil pump.

3. Remove oil pump cover assembly.
4. Remove oil pump Gerotor.
5. Remove pressure regulator valve.
^ Plug or pin.
^ Spring.
^ Valve. If the valve is stuck, clean the valve and pump housing with carburetor cleaning solvent.

WARNING: The pressure regulator valve spring is under pressure. Exercise caution when unscrewing the plug, or removing the pin, as bodily injury may result.

INSPECTION
1. Inspect pump housing and cover for cracks, scoring, and casting imperfections.
2. Inspect pressure regulator valve for scoring or sticking.
3. Inspect pressure regulator spring for loss of tension or bending. If in doubt, replace spring.
4. Inspect screen assembly for looseness or broken wire mesh.
5. Inspect Gerotor pump for chipping, galling, and wear.


INSTALLATION
1. Lubricate all parts with clean engine oil.
2. Pack all pump cavities with petroleum jelly to assure pump priming.
3. Install oil pump Gerotor.
4. Install pressure regulator valve.
5. Install oil pump cover assembly. Torque bolts to 10 Nm (90 in lb).
6. Install new oil filter.
7. Install oil pan.
8. Fill crankcase with engine oil.
^ Remove the oil pressure sending unit and install an oil pressure gage.
^ Start engine and observe oil pressure
^ If the oil pressure does not build up immediately, remove the oil pan and examine pump. If necessary, disassemble the oil pump and repack it with petroleum jelly.
^ Check for bearing knock, If necessary, dismantle and check for adequate oil supply and proper clearances.
