Subject: 1987-89 SPECIFICATIONS FOR HEAD BOLT TORQUE

Affected: ALL MODELS

This bulletin cancels and replaces bulletin 88-6-82 issued 11/88. This bulletin is being revised to add an additional torque sequence to VIN Codes K and M and to add 1989 model year.

The entries under the heading "Torque Head Bolt To" is the "Torque To" for one complete pass thru the "Torque Sequence," when a second specification is listed, that should be used for a second pass thru the torque sequence listed. After completing the torque sequence (s) then proceed to the entries listed under "Rotate To Angle Of." This is the angle in degrees that each bolt should be rotated following the complete torque sequence. Each entry listed represents one pass thru the sequence.

The illustration shows a typical head bolt pattern and torque sequence.
The position of the numbers listed under "Torque Sequence" indicate the approximate position of the head bolts in the cylinder head.

* Complete this procedure after the above sequence has been completed.

^ Start engine and run until thermostat opens.

^ Torque all cylinder head/cam carrier bolts an additional 30 degrees to 50 degrees in the proper sequence.
