Removal and Replacement
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.2. On models except 6-181 engine, remove air cleaner assembly.
3. On models with V6-181 engine, remove mass air flow and air intake duct.
4. On all models, remove T.V. cable at throttle lever and transaxle.
5. Remove fluid level indicator and fill tube.
6. Install suitable engine support fixture, then insert 1/4 x 2 inch bolt in hole at front right motor mount to ensure proper driveline alignment.
7. Remove wiring harness to transaxle attaching nut, then the following electrical connectors:
a. Speed Sensor.
b. TCC connector.
c. Park/neutral and back-up lamp switch.
8. Remove shift linkage from transaxle, then the top two transaxle to engine attaching bolts and left upper transaxle mount and bracket assembly.
9. Remove transaxle to vent pipe rubber hose.
10. Remove remaining upper engine to transaxle attaching bolts, then raise and support vehicle.
11. Remove front wheels, then drain transaxle fluid.
12. Remove shift linkage and bracket from transaxle.
13. Install drive axle boot seal protector J33162 or equivalent on inner seals. Some vehicles may use a silicone (gray) boot on the inboard axle joint Use protector J-33162 on these boots, all other boots are made from a thermo-plastic material (black) and do not require use of a boot seal protector.
14. Remove ball joints from control arms, then both drive axles.
15. Remove transaxle mounting strut, then the left stabilizer bar link pin bolt.
16. Remove left stabilizer bar frame bushing clamp attaching nuts, then the left frame support assembly.
17. On models equipped with 4-110 engine, remove exhaust pipe from manifold.
18. On all models, remove transaxle converter cover.
19. Scribe alignment mark on flex plate and torque converter, then remove torque converter to flex plate attaching bolts.
20. Remove and plug transaxle cooler lines.
21. Remove transaxle to engine support bracket.
22. Position suitable jack under transaxle, then remove remaining engine to transaxle attaching bolts.
23. Lower transaxle from vehicle.
24. Reverse procedures to install, noting the following:
a. Torque converter to flex plate attaching bolts to 46 ft lbs.
b. Readjust T.V. cable.
c. Check front suspension alignment.
