Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Oil Charge

ADDING OIL

NOTE: Oil should be added to the A/C system after it is discharged and before it is evacuated.

Remove the refrigeration suction hose at the accumulator outlet pipe connection. Pour the right amount of new refrigerant oil into the hose or pipe, then reconnect the hose to the pipe.

Refrigerant Oil Distribution
The V-5 compressor systems require 240 ml (8 fl oz) of 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

When installing new components add the following oil to the system:

Compressor - Remove the compressor and drain the oil. Measure the oil removed and replace it with the same amount of new oil, plus 30 ml (1 fl oz).
Evaporator - Add 60 ml (2 fl oz).
Condenser - Add 30 ml (1 fl oz).
Accumulator - Remove the accumulator and drain the oil. Measure the oil removed, then replace it with the same amount of new oil, plus 60 ml (2 fl oz) to compensate for that retained by the desiccant in the original accumulator. If no oil can be drained from the old accumulator, add 60 ml (2 fl oz) of new oil to the new accumulator.
