Cylinder Head Replacement - Left Side




REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Drain coolant from block.
2. Valve covers.
3. Intake manifold.
4. Exhaust crossover pipe.
5. Oil level indicator bracket.
6. Loosen rocker arms until able to remove push rods.
7. Cylinder head bolts.
8. Cylinder head.

CLEAN
^ Gasket surfaces on the head, cylinder block and intake manifold.
^ Cylinder block bolt threads.
^ Cylinder head bolts.

INSPECT
^ Cylinder head

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Place the gasket in position over the dowel pins, with the note "This Side Up" showing.
2. Cylinder head.
3. Coat cylinder head bolt threads with GM 1052080 Sealer or equivalent, and install bolts.
Tighten
^ Bolts in sequence, per figure.
4. Intake gasket.
5. Push rods.

CAUTION Make sure lower ends of push rods are in lifter seats.

6. Rocker arms.
Tighten
6 Nuts to 20-27 Nm (14-20 ft. lbs.).
7. Intake manifold.
Tighten
^ Bolts to 32 Nm (25 ft. lb.)
8. Valve covers.
Tighten
^ Bolts to 8-12 Nm (6-9 ft. lb.)
9. Oil level indicator tube bracket to head.
Tighten
^ Bolt to 27-41 Nm (20-30 ft. lb.)
10. Exhaust Crossover Pipe.
Tighten
^ Bolts to 34 Nm (25 ft. lb.)
11. Engine strut bracket.
Tighten
^ Bolts to 40-54 Nm (30-40 ft. lb.)
