Engine: Service and Repair
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT1. Battery cables.
2. Drain coolant.
3. Air flow tube from air cleaner and from throttle body.
4. Necessary wires.
5. Throttle and T.V. cables.
6. Fuel lines.
7. Crossover pipe.
8. Serpentine belt.
9. Radiator hoses and heater hoses.
10. A/C bolts at front bracket.
11. P/S pump and lay aside.
12. Alternator and bracket.
13. Raise vehicle.
14. A/C compressor bolts at rear bracket and lay aside.
15. A.I.R. pump (if equipped).
16. Flywheel cover.
17. Starter and lay aside.
18. Torque converter bolts (Auto Trans.)
19. Transaxle bracket.
20. Exhaust pipe at manifold.
21. Engine front mount to frame retaining nuts.
22. Lower vehicle.
23. Engine strut.
24. Transaxle bolts.
25. Bulkhead connector.
26. Support transaxle.
27. Attach lifting device
28. Engine assembly
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Lower engine into car.
2. Line up transaxle with engine and install attaching bolts.
Tighten
^ Bolts to 75 Nm (55 ft. lb.).
3. Locate front engine mount studs in both the cradle and engine bracket and lower engine (right side of vehicle).
4. Raise vehicle.
5. (Air conditioning) - compressor on mounting bracket.
Tighten
^ Bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lb.)
6. Engine front mount retaining nuts to both the cradle and engine bracket.
Tighten
^ Nuts to 45 Nm (33 ft. lb.)
7. Lower transaxle-to-engine bolt (back side of engine).
8. Exhaust pipe.
Tighten
^ Bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lb.)
9. (Automatic Transaxle)
^ Transaxle converter shield.
Tighten
^ Bolts to 12 Nm (107 in. lb.)
^ Torque converter-to-flywheel bolts.
Tighten
^ Bolts to 47 Nm (35 ft. lb.)
10. Starter
Tighten
^ Bolts to 43 Nm (32 ft. lb.)
11. Battery cable at starter.
12. Air pump (if equipped).
13. Lower car
14. Exhaust crossover pipe.
Tighten
^ Bolts to 34 Nm (25 ft. lb.)
15. Fuel lines.
16. Power Steering pump and bracket.
Tighten
^ Bracket bolts to 34 Nm (25 ft. lb.)
^ Pump nuts to 32 Nm (24 ft. lb.)
17. Heater and radiator hoses
18. Engine harness to junction block and ECM.
19. Accelerator cable and T.V. cable (automatic transaxle).
20. Vacuum hoses.
21. Wire connectors.
22. Air conditioning compressor bolts.
Tighten
^ Bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lb.)
23. Engine strut bracket to radiator support
Tighten
^ Bolts to 23 Nm (17 ft. lb.)
24. Fill cooling system.
25. Air flow tube.
26. Serpentine belt.
27. Battery cables.
INSPECT
^ Engine oil level
^ Leaks
