440-T4 Automatic Transaxle
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.2. Remove air cleaner assembly, then disconnect T.V. cable at both ends.
3. Disconnect shift linkage from transaxle.
4. Install engine support fixture, then disconnect converter clutch electrical connector.
5. Remove three transaxle to engine attaching bolts, then disconnect vacuum line from modulator.
6. Raise and support vehicle.
7. Remove left front wheel assembly, then the lower ball joint pinch nut
8. Remove brake line bracket from strut, then disconnect drive axles at transaxle.
9. Remove cradle-to-stabilizer attaching bolts.
10. Remove stabilizer to control arm attaching bolts, then the left front cradle assembly.
11. Disconnect speedometer cable from transaxle, then remove extension housing to engine block support bracket
12. Disconnect cooler lines from transaxle, then remove right and left insulator attaching bolts.
13. Remove flywheel splash shield, then mark relative position between flywheel and converter.
14. Remove flywheel attaching bolts, then all remaining transaxle to engine attaching bolts except one.
15. Support transaxle with a suitable jack, then remove remaining bolt and carefully lower transaxle from vehicle.
16. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque bellhousing bolts to 55 ft lbs.
b. Torque converter to flex plate bolts to 31 ft lbs.
c. Torque right and left insulator bolts to 40 ft lbs.
d. Torque cooler line fittings to 20 ft lbs.
