This bulletin supercedes and replaces Dealer Technical Bulletin 88-T-100, which may be discarded. The procedure, labor time, model years and body styles affected have been revised.
Some Firenza and Cutlass Calais models may exhibit a condition where the dash pad bows up between the defroster duct and the windshield. This condition may be repaired using the following procedure:
1. Remove the defroster grille.
2. Loosen the two (2) screws in the defroster opening.
3. Use an awl or other sharp, pointed tool to pierce a very small hole in the dash pad as shown in the illustration on the back of this page. The hole should be centered (left to right) in the duct opening, and positioned as shown in view "A" of the illustration so that the defroster grille will cover the hole when re-installed.
4. Secure the dash pad to the sheet metal lip by installing a clip P/N 22551474 as shown in the illustration. When properly installed, the clip should be positioned so that the wide "leg" of the clip is under the sheet metal lip and the narrow, pointed "leg" of the clip is inserted in the dash pad, just above the pad substrate (backing) material. Refer to the illustration. Parts are currently available from GMSPO.
NOTE: It may become necessary to install one or two additional clips to properly position the pad.
5. Tighten the two (2) previously loosened dash pad screws.
6. Re-install the defroster grille. It may be necessary to trim some of the flashing on the bottom of the grille if there is any interference between the grille and the newly-installed clip(s).
