Incomplete First Gear Engagement - GM 4SPD 76mm O/D Passenger

1. Adjust shift linkage. It may be necessary to preload the shifter lever in 1st gear during adjustment by holding shifter in 1st gear as far up as possible while maintaining constant pressure toward driver's side of vehicle.

2. Examine 1-2 synchronizer, blocker ring and output gear assembly, see accompanying figures, for defects. If condition of these parts is questionable, replace using part No. 14062629 for synchronizer, part No. 464835 for blocker ring and if necessary part No. 14008270 for 1st speed output gear assembly.

3. Using tool No. J-33373 install shims on input shaft two sizes smaller than maximum acceptable size to reduce preload and ease 1st gear operation. If gear endplay exceeds 0.004 inch -0.005 inch, increase input shaft shim by one size.
