A/T - 440T4 Noises/Improper Fluid Levels After Service

SUBJECT: 440 T4

COMPLAINT:
Noises. or improper fluid levels after servicing the 440 T4.

POSSIBLE CAUSE:




The thermo element on a 440 T4 is located next to the transmission oil filter neck. The filter can be very hard to remove. You may find that you will have to pry it out with a large screwdriver. DON'T PRY AGAINST THE THERMO ELEMENT, as in Figure 1. If this is done, it will be necessary to replace the thermo element.




Always pry against the transmission case, as in Figure 2. After the filter is removed, feel the filter seal. If it is damaged, replacement is necessary.
