A/T - 440T4 Slipping On 2-3 Shift
TSB: 87-17 (Mar)Subject: 440 T4
PROBLEM: Flair-up on 2-3 shift
DIAGNOSIS:
Install transmission pressure gauge into mainline pressure tap. The transmission fluid pressure should be normal, (65-75 PSI) with transmission in drive, engine at 1000 RPM.
If pressure is high, be certain vacuum modulator is receiving full engine vacuum at idle. Place selector in drive, accelerate engine, while observing transmission fluid pressure, during 2-3 shift.
If pressure reading drops over 10 PSI during the 2-3 shift flare, then returns to normal after the 2-3 shift is completed, the prob1em may be the capsule ball check assembly in the 1-2 servo release passage.
This is check ball # 7, Part # 8646190. See Fig. 1 for location.
