Low Range - Valves In 1ST Gear Position

In this range, the forward clutch is applied and the low-reverse clutch is applied. The transaxle is in Low range-first gear.

Maximum engine braking can be obtained at speeds below about 40 mph with selector lever in Low range. Low range oil pressure is the same as intermediate (120 psi) because intermediate oil is still present.

Low oil from the manual valve is directed to the 1-2 throttle valve. Low oil pressure and the 1-2 TV spring will close the 1-2 shift valve at speeds below about 40 mph. This permits low oil to enter the low 1st passage where it seats the low 1st check ball and passes through an orifice to the low blow off valve which exhausts to 1st oil down to 35 psi. The low 1st oil is then directed to seat the low-reverse check ball and to the low-reverse clutch for a smooth apply.
