Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair

The oxygen sensor has a permanently attached wire and connector. This should not be removed, since removal will affect proper operation of the oxygen sensor.

1. Disconnect electrical connector from oxygen sensor.
2. Using suitable wrench, carefully remove sensor from exhaust manifold or pipe. The oxygen sensor may be difficult to remove when engine temperature is below 120°F. Use caution, since excessive force may damage threads in exhaust manifold or pipe.
3. If new sensor is being used, install sensor into manifold or pipe.
4. If old sensor is being reused, coat threads with anti-seize compound, then install into manifold or pipe.
5. Torque oxygen sensor to specifications, then reconnect electrical connector.
