Fig. 4 Intake Manifold Tightening Sequence:
1. Disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. Relieve fuel pressure as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.
3. Remove plastic engine cover and air intake duct, then remove fuel rail, then exhaust manifold heat shield.
4. Disconnect righthand side spark plug wires and position aside.
5. Remove cable bracket to cylinder head mounting bolt, then the power steering pump support bracket.
6. Loosen alternator and move to obtain clearance.
7. Remove alternator bracket, heater pipes and bypass hose.
8. Remove intake manifold attaching bolts, then the manifold.
9. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Clean cylinder block, heads and intake manifold sealing surface of all oil using a suitable solvent.
b. Remove adhesive compound from intake manifold bolts and bolt holes.
c. Apply thread lock compound part No. 12345493 or equivalent to intake manifold bolt threads prior to installation.
d. Tighten intake manifold bolts in two steps to specifications in sequence shown in Fig. 4.
e. Rearm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
