Fuel Pump: Service and Repair

Fuel Modular Assembly:

Fuel Modular Sender Flow:

REMOVAL
1. Before servicing the fuel pump the fuel system pressure must be relieved.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Raise the car on a hoist.
4. Drain fuel and remove the fuel tank.
5. Remove modular fuel assembly by holding down and remove snap ring from designated slots on the retainer.

NOTE: The modular fuel sender assembly may spring up from its position. When removing the assembly from the fuel tank, be aware that the reservoir bucket is full of fuel. The modular fuel sender assembly must be tipped slightly during removal to avoid damage to the float. Discard fuel into a approved container.

INSTALLATION
1. New O-ring on modular fuel sender to tank.
2. Align tab on front of sender with slot on front of retainer snap ring.

NOTE: Care should be taken not to fold over or twist the strainer when installing the sending unit as this will restrict the flow of fuel. Also, verify that the strainer does not block the full travel of the float arm.

3. Slowly apply pressure to top of spring loaded sender until sender aligns flush with retainer on tank.
4. insert snap ring into designated slots.

NOTE: Be sure that the snap ring is fully seated within the tab slots.

5. Reinstall fuel tank and fuel.

INSPECT
Turn ignition to "ON" position for two seconds, then turn to "OFF" for ten seconds. Again turn to "ON" position, and check for fuel leaks.
