Gear/Shift Rail Assemblies & Support Component






Assemble
1. Install input and output shaft gear assemblies (A).

2. Install the following onto gear clusters:

a. Install 1-2 shift rail (190).

b. Install lockpin (196), retaining with petroleum jelly.

c. Install 3-4 shift rail (184).

d. Install fifth shift rail (179).

e. Install reverse shift rail (180).

f. Install shift gate (181), then disengage roller (182).









Installation
1. Position gear cluster/shift rail assembly (A) onto pallet tool No. J-36182-1, or equivalent, then align shift rail and shaft pilots onto fixture.

2. Align bearing bores in case with shaft pilots, then install transaxle case (85).

3. Remove transaxle from tool No. J-26182-1, or equivalent, then push rails (A and B) to engage and secure transaxle in fourth and reverse gears.

4. Install new output shaft bearing (86) and input shaft bearing (93) using output/input shaft support bearing installer tool No. J-35824, or equivalent, and a press. Ensure bearings (86 and 93) are completely seated.

5. Install new output retainer (88) using retainer bolt hex socket tool No. J-36031, or equivalent. Tighten output retainer support screws to specifications. Torque support screws to 50 ft. lbs.

6. Place transaxle back into Neutral position.
