Differential Assembly Shim Selection

This procedure must be performed when the transaxle case, clutch and differential case, differential carrier or the differential bearing assemblies are replaced.

1. Install shim selection set tool No. J-26935, or equivalent, onto clutch housing (20) and transaxle housing (85).

2. Measure are U for largest possible shim size, then select shim (73) two sizes larger.

3. Install selected shim (73).

4. Apply sealant part No. 1052942 to drive axle seal bore in case.

5. Install bearing race (76) and axle shaft seal (23) using differential seal and race installer tool No. J-26938 and driver handle tool No. J-8092 or equivalents.

6. Fill in axle shaft seal lips with chassis grease.
