Check Gages Indicator
The CHECK GAGES Indicator lights to indicate that one of the four gages is indicating a condition that merits immediate attention. This indicator lights under the following four conditions:1. The system voltage goes above 16 volts or drops below 9 volts.
2. The coolant temperature nears 280°F (140°C).
3. The oil pressure drops below 4 psi (28 kPa).
4. The fuel level nears empty.
The Instrument Cluster's internal circuits monitor the vehicle system voltage. When the vehicle system voltage drops below 9 volts or goes above 16 volts, the Instrument Cluster turns on the CHECK GAGES Indicator.
When the resistance of the Coolant Temperature Sensor drops below 60 ohms, the ECM informs the Instrument Cluster of an over-temperature warning input. The Instrument Cluster then turns on the CHECK GAGES Indicator. The indicator is not turned off until the resistance rises above 100 ohms.
When the resistance of the Oil Pressure Sender drops below 9.5 ohms, the Instrument Cluster turns on the CHECK GAGES Indicator. The indicator is not turned off until resistance rises above 15.5 ohms.
When the resistance of the Fuel Gage Sender drops below 8 ohms, the Instrument Cluster turns on the CHECK GAGES Indicator. The indicator is not turned off until resistance rises above 16 ohms.
