SUBJECT:
RIGHT SIDE I/P AIR OUTLET SHUT-OFF DOOR BLOWS CLOSED - WRAP THE HUB OF THE RETAINER WITH TAPE

CONDITION:
Some 1992 Achieva's may exhibit a condition where the right instrument panel air outlet shut-off door blows closed when in the MAX, NORM, BI-LEVEL, or VENT mode.

CAUSE:
There is insufficient friction in the mechanism to hold the set position.





CORRECTION:
1. Remove the air outlet from the instrument panel, reference attachment.
2. Remove the barrel assembly from the air outlet housing.
3. Remove the black retainer from the thumb wheel.
4. Wrap the "hub" of the retainer with a 6 mm x 6 mm (1/4 inch x 1/4 inch) piece of electrical tape.
5. Reinstall the retainer onto the housing.
6. Check the thumb-wheel for acceptable operating effort, add more or less tape as required for proper operation.
7. Reinstall the barrel assembly.
8. Reinstall the air outlet assembly into the instrument panel.
