SUBJECT
REAR DOOR GLASS CHATTER - ATTACH LOW FRICTION TAPE ON DOOR GLASS EDGES
MODELS/YEARS
1992 ACHIEVA SEDAN
CONDITION:
Some 1992 Achieva sedans may exhibit rear door glass chaffer upon operation of rear electric windows.
CAUSE:
Excessive friction between glass and upper and lower run channels, resulting in an erratic glass movement known as glass chaffer.
CORRECTION:
Attach six pieces of low friction segmented tape, Kit P/N 22586239, on rear door glass edges per following procedure:
A. Remove rear door glass per 1992 Achieva Service Manual procedure.
B. Clean glass edges with 3M 08984 all purpose cleaner, or equivalent.
C. Attach low friction segmented insulator tape as follows:
1. Brown strip to be used on the front edge of glass, (P/N 22585829) is part of kit P/N 22586239.
2. White strip with hole punched in backing paper, P/N 22585830 is to be used on rear edge of the glass. The side of tape with a hole punched in the backing paper is the narrow side. That side should be applied to the outside surface of glass.
3. Remove protective backing from tape.
4. Begin by placing the first strip of tape approximately 5.0 mm from the corner at the top of glass as shown in the illustration.
5. Allow 5.0 mm clearance between tape strips.
6. Reinstall the rear door glass in the vehicle.
7. Repeat procedure on opposite side of glass. See the current Labor Time Guide for-warranty information. Parts are currently available from GMSPO.
