Borg-Warner 4472 Transfer Case














Remove or Disconnect

1. Negative battery cable.

^ Raise vehicle. Support with safety stands.
^ Drain the oil from the transfer case.

2. Rear propeller shaft.
3. Front propeller shaft (48).
4. Vent hose (16).
5. Electrical connections at transfer case (57).

^ Support the transfer case with a jack.

6. Transfer case left brace (47) and bracket (54).
7. Transfer case right brace (61).
8. Adapter to transfer case bolts (35).
9. Transfer case mount nuts and washers (38 and 39).
10. Transfer case (34).
11. Transfer case to adapter gasket (31).

Install or Connect

^ Make sure all gasket surfaces are clean and free of grease and oil.

1. Transfer case to adapter gasket (31). Use gasket sealer to hold gasket in place.

^ Support the transfer case with a jack.

2. Transfer case (34) to transfer case adapter (30).
3. Bolts (35). Adapter to transfer case.

^ Remove the jack from the transfer case.

Tighten
^ Bolts (35) to 52 Nm (38 ft. lbs.).

4. Transfer case mount (37) washers and nuts (38 and 39).

Tighten
^ Nuts (38) to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).

5. Left brace (47) and bolts (51 and 53).

Tighten
^ Bolt (53) to 50 Nm (37 ft.lbs.).
^ Bolts (51) to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).

6. Right brace (61) and bolts (60 and 62).

Tighten
^ Bolt (60) to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
^ Bolt (60) to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).

7. Speed sensor connections (8).
8. Vent hose (16).
9. Front propeller shaft (48).
10. Rear propeller shaft.

^ Fill the transfer case with the proper lubricant.
^ Lower the vehicle.

11. Negative battery cable.
