Campaign - Mislabeled Fuse Block & Owner's Manual

9232OLDS03

Number: 92-C-07

Date: June 1992

Section: 8A

Subject:
MISLABELED FUSE BLOCK & INCORRECT OWNER'S MANUAL FUSE SPECIFICATIONS

Models/Years:
1992 CUSTOM CRUISER

CONDITION

General Motors has determined that certain 1992 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser station wagon model vehicles may have been assembled with mislabeled fuse blocks and/or owners manuals which state the incorrect fuse specifications. Although these vehicles were assembled with the correct fuses, subsequent fuse replacements based on incorrect information could result in inadequate circuit protection or repeated fuse failures.

To correct this condition, owners of involved vehicles will be sent a new fuse block specification insert for the owners manual and, if applicable, a new fuse block label. Since these materials can easily be installed, and to reduce owner inconvenience, owners will be provided instructions to allow them to correct this condition themselves. However, if they desire, owners are being given the option to have the materials installed by their dealer at no charge.

VEHICLES INVOLVED

Involved are 1992 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser station wagon model vehicles within the following VIN breakpoints:

Item Through and
Year Model Model Name Needed Beginning Including

1992 B Custom Cruiser Fuse Block Label NW300001 NW300358

NOTE:
THE FIRST 358 CUSTOM CRUISERS BUILT IN 1992 PRODUCTION REQUIRE BOTH THE NEW FUSE BLOCK LABEL AND THE NEW OWNER'S MANUAL INSERT.

VIN lists to dealers with involved vehicles will indicate total number of vehicles involved and assigned to the dealer, and the numbers of fuse block labels and/or Owners Manual inserts to be sent to dealers with "unsold" vehicles.

DEALER ACTION

Dealers are to service all vehicles involved in this campaign, at no charge to owners, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership.

Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is taken into your new or used car inventory, or it is in your dealership for service, you are to ensure the campaign correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.

Dealers are to contact owners of vehicles recently sold from your new or used vehicle inventory and arrange for the campaign correction to be performed.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. If a new fuse block label needs to be installed (see Vehicles Involved section, page 1), open the drivers door and locate the fuse block door on the end of the instrument panel. To open the fuse block door, pull the tab outward. Carefully peel the backing from the new label and install it over the existing label on the back of the fuse block door.

2. Install a new "Fuse Usage" sheet (insert) on Owners Manual page 246. Carefully peel the backing from the new label and paste it carefully onto Page 246 to cover all the old text and illustration.

3. Install a Campaign Identification Label.

CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL

Each label provides space to print the campaign number, and the five (5) digit dealer code of the dealer performing the campaign. Insert this information with a typewriter or ball-point pen. When installing label, clean and dry the surface of the radiator support tie bar and apply the campaign label where it is readily visible.

PARTS INFORMATION

Parts required to complete this campaign are being sent directly to the owners of the vehicles. Parts for vehicles which Oldsmobile records identify as "unsold" will be shipped with the VIN list to the dealer at which the vehicle is invoiced. Fuse block labels and/or Owners Manual inserts for "out-of-position" vehicles may be obtained, at no charge to dealers, from Wonderland Business Forms (see instructions in Management Bulletin 92-1-32 for requesting parts from Wonderland). VIN lists to dealers with involved vehicles will indicate total number of vehicles involved and assigned to the dealer, and the numbers of fuse block labels and/or Owners Manual inserts to be sent to dealers with "unsold" vehicles.
