SHAFT LOCK, TURN SIGNAL CANCELLING CAM, UPPER BEARING SPRING, UPPER BEARING SEAT, INNER RACE, TURN SIGNAL SWITCH, ALARM ASSEMBLY & LOCK CYLINDER SET
Disassembly
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Gently pull up on horn pad to remove.
3. Disconnect horn lead by gently pushing down on lead and turning to the left, spring will then come out of cancelling cam tower.
4. Remove retainer, nut and steering wheel.
5. Remove shaft lock retaining ring using special tool No. J 23653-C or equivalent to depress shaft lock.
6. Remove shaft lock, turn signal cancelling cam, upper bearing spring and thrust washer.
7. Move turn signal to the ``right turn'' position.
8. Remove multi-function lever, screw and switch actuator arm.
9. Remove screws, hazard knob assembly and turn signal switch.
10. Remove wiring protector and gently pull harness through gearshift lever bowl, gearshift lever bowl shroud and lock cover assembly housing.
11. Remove key from lock cylinder and alarm assembly and clip.
12. Reinstall key and turn to the Lock position, remove lock retaining screw, then lock cylinder set.
Assembly
1. Install lock cylinder set and retaining screw and torque to 30 lb in
2. Install key and turn to the Run position.
3. Install alarm assembly and clip.
4. Install turn signal switch harness through lock housing cover assembly, gearshift lever bowl and gearshift bowl shroud and connect.
5. Install turn signal switch and screws and torque to 35 lb in
6. Install wiring protector, switch actuator arm and screw and torque to 20 lb in
7. Install hazard knob assembly, multi-function lever, thrust washer, upper bearing spring and turn signal cancelling cam.
8. Install shaft lock and shaft lock retaining ring using special tool No. J 23653-C to depress shaft lock.
9. Install steering wheel and nut and torque to 30 lb ft
10. Install horn lead and pad, then connect battery ground cable.
LOCK HOUSING COVER ASSEMBLY, COVER END CAP, PIVOT & PULSE SWITCH ASSEMBLY, IGNITION SWITCH ACTUATOR, UPPER BEARING, SWITCH ACTUATOR SECTOR, DIMMER SWITCH & IGNITION SWITCH
Disassembly
1. Remove shaft lock, turn signal cancelling cam, upper bearing spring, upper bearing seat, inner race, turn signal switch, alarm assembly & lock cylinder set as previously described.
2. On models equipped with cruise control, remove housing cover end cap, disconnect multi-function lever connector and gently pull through shroud, bowl and cover and remove multi-function lever.
3. On all models, remove washer head screw, hex nut, dimmer switch and mounting stud.
4. Remove ignition switch, dimmer switch rod, cover screws and lock cover housing assembly.
5. Remove upper bearing retainer and gently pull pivot switch harness through gear shift bowl shroud and gear shift lever bowl.
6. Remove binding head cross recess screw, housing cover end cap and switch actuator pivot pin.
7. Remove pivot and pulse switch assembly, flat head cross recess screws and shift lever gate.
8. Remove ignition switch actuator assembly, spring and lock bolt assembly, spring thrust washer and rack preload spring.
9. Remove bearing retaining bushing and horn circuit contact.
10. Remove bearing assembly and switch actuator sector.
Assembly
1. Install switch actuator sector and bearing assembly.
2. Install bearing retaining bushing, horn circuit contact and rack preload spring.
3. Install ignition switch actuator assembly, spring and lock bolt assembly and spring thrust washer.
4. Install shift lever gate and torque screws to 44 lb in
5. Install pivot and pulse switch assembly and switch actuator pivot pin.
6. On models equipped with cruise control, gently pull connector through cover assembly, bowl, and shroud and connect, then install multi-function lever.
7. On all models, install housing cover end cap and screw and torque screw to 18 lb in
8. Gently pull pivot switch harness through bowl and shroud and connect.
9. Install upper bearing retainer, lock housing cover assembly and screws and torque screws to 97 lb in
10. Install ignition switch and mounting stud and torque to 36 lb in
11. Install dimmer switch rod, dimmer switch and hex nut and torque to 36 lb in
12. Perform assembly steps for shaft lock, turn signal cancelling cam, upper bearing spring, upper bearing seat, inner race, turn signal switch, alarm assembly & lock cylinder set as previously described.
SHAFT ASSEMBLY, ADAPTER & BEARING ASSEMBLY, GEARSHIFT LEVER BOWL, SHIFT TUBE ASSEMBLY & BOWL LOWER BEARING
Disassembly
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Gently pull up on horn pad to remove and disconnect horn lead by pushing down and turning left to remove from cancelling cam tower.
3. Remove retainer, nut and steering wheel.
4. Remove column from vehicle.
5. Remove bearing and seal retainer, lower spring retainer, lower bearing spring and lower bearing seat.
6. Remove hex head screws, adapter and bearing assembly and shift tube return spring.
7. Remove column shaft assembly and check for accident damage.
8. Remove retaining ring, gearshift lever bowl and shroud.
9. Remove upper shift lever spring from bowl, shift tube assembly and bowl lower bearing.
Assembly
1. Install lower bowl bearing to jacket assembly and upper shift lever spring to bowl.
2. Install shift tube assembly, gearshift lever bowl and shroud.
3. Install shift tube return spring, adapter and bearing assembly, lubricating inner surface with lithium grease.
4. Install screws and torque to 27 lb in
5. Install lower bearing seat, lower bearing spring, bearing and seal retainer.
6. Install steering wheel and torque nut to 30 lb ft
7. Install retainer, horn lead and pad and connect battery ground cable.
