Keyless Entry: Description and Operation
The Keyless Entry System includes a hand-held radio Transmitter and Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Module. The Transmitter sends digitally-encoded radio signals to the module when a button is pushed. The following circuits can be controlled:1. Illuminated Entry lights,
2. Door locks (all doors or just driver's), and
3. Luggage compartment lid release.
Transmitted range is 7 meters (23 feet).
ILLUMINATED ENTRY
The RKE Module grounds the Interior Lights for approximately 40 seconds when a door unlock signal is received by the RKE Module or until the Ignition Switch is turned to "RUN."
DOOR LOCKS
If the RKE Transmitter Unlock Button is pressed once, it will turn on its output at Connector C2 term "C."
When the RKE Transmitter Unlock Button is pressed once, the driver's door will be unlocked. The RKE Module receives the transmitted signal and activates its output at Connector C2 term "C." This applies battery directly to the LH Front Door Lock Motor which is grounded through the Automatic Door Lock Relay.
Pushing the Unlock Button twice within 5 seconds results in the RKE Module activating its output at Connector C2 terms "D" and "C." The driver's door motor is driven directly by the RKE Module as described above, and the Unlock Relay in the Door Lock Relay Assembly is energized, causing the passengers' doors to unlock.
Pushing the Lock Button results in the RKE Module activating its output at Connector C2 term "E." This energizes the Lock Relay in the Automatic Door Lock Relay and locks the doors. The driver's door is grounded through the RKE Module when locking.
LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID RELEASE
The luggage compartment lid release is operated by applying battery voltage to the Luggage Compartment Lid Release Solenoid when the Trunk Release Button on the Transmitter is pressed. The Remote Keyless Entry Module cannot activate the Luggage Compartment Lid Release Solenoid when terminal "6" of module Con C2 is grounded. This terminal is grounded when the Gear Selector is in "PARK" or "NEUTRAL."
