Right Front Carpet Wet Due to Water Leak Between Air Inlet Screen and Windshield
(Install Sealing Strip)
Models:
1991-94 Buick Skylark
1991-94 Chevrolet Beretta, Corsica
1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais
1992-94 Oldsmobile Achieva
1991-94 Pontiac Grand Am
Condition
Some owners may comment on the right front carpet wet due to water leak between air inlet screen and windshield.
Cause
Water leaking between the air inlet screen and windshield enters the passenger compartment through the HVAC air inlet stack assembly.
Correction
For Buick, Oldsmobile and Pontiac
1. Remove windshield wiper arms.
2. Remove air inlet screen.
3. Trim enough windshield urethane to install sealing strip, (refer to Figure 1).
4. Remove backing paper from sealing strip, P/N 22639153, and install sealing strip, (refer to Figure 1).
5. Install air inlet screen.
6. Install windshield wiper arms.
For Chevrolet
1. Remove right windshield wiper arm.
2. Remove right air inlet screen.
3. Trim enough windshield urethane to install sealing strip, (refer to Figure 2).
4. Remove backing paper from sealing Strip, P/N 22639153, and install sealing strip, (refer to Figure 2).
5. Remove all butyl from windshield, air inlet screen and dash extension.
6. Apply butyl to right air inlet screen.
7. Install right air inlet screen.
8. Install right windshield wiper arm.
