Oil Pump: Description and Operation

The oil pump is a gerotor type driven by the crankshaft. The gear cover and oil pump body are cast aluminum, whereas the gerotor cover is cast iron. A phenolic driven gear is used to minimize gear noise. A windage tray is used to maintain oil pressure and low friction at high engine speeds.
