1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove left and right sound insulators, Figs. 58 and 59.
3. On models with center console, proceed as follows:
a. Open armrest and remove cassette holder.
b. Remove six screws, then lift compartment straight up.
c. Remove ashtray, then two screws in ashtray opening.
d. On models with column shifter, open center compartment and remove two screws at rear of center compartment.
e. On models with console shifter, use a small screwdriver to pry off snap ring that holds shift knob in place. Remove shift knob and remove two screws at rear of shifter plate.
4. On all models, remove center compartment or shifter plate, Fig. 60.
5. Pull console trim plate rearward, then disconnect the electrical connectors to DIS, ashtray light and lighter.
6. Remove console trim plate, then remove two screws from console trim plate opening.
7. Remove upper console, Fig. 61.
8. Remove steering column collar by carefully prying rearward to release the five clips.
9. Remove outer air deflectors by pulling rearward.
10. Remove one bolt and one screw from deflector openings, then one bolt and one screw from steering column opening.
11. On models with center console, remove four bolts from ashtray trim cover. Remove ashtray trim cover and the two bolts holding accessory trim plate.
12. On models less center console, open ashtray and remove two bolts holding accessory trim plate.
13. On models with column shift, move shift lever to the 1 position.

14. On all models, remove accessory trim panel by carefully pulling rearward to release clips, Fig. 62.
15. Remove torx screws from bottom and top of cluster trim plate, then remove trim plate, Fig. 63.
16. On models with column shifter, remove shift indicator clip from steering column shift bowl.
17. On all models, remove four bolts holding instrument cluster, pull cluster rearward and disconnect speedometer.
18. Remove speaker grilles by prying carefully.
19. Remove ventilation control assembly, Fig. 64.
20. Remove parking brake release handle, then side window defogger hoses from heater outlet.
21. Disconnect steering column wiring harness from the steering column.
22. Remove wiper motor to cowl attaching bolts, then disconnect bulkhead connector at cowl.
23. Remove lower instrument panel attaching bolts, then using a small screwdriver remove defroster grille by carefully prying upward.
24. Remove upper instrument panel attaching bolts, Fig. 65, then open engine compartment hood.
25. Remove clip in engine compartment holding instrument panel wiring harness to cowl.
26. Disconnect electrical connectors from wiring harness in engine compartment.
27. Pull wiring harness through cowl opening into passenger compartment.
28. Tilt instrument panel forward and disconnect remaining electrical connectors and remove instrument panel.
29. Reverse procedure to install.
