Fuel Filter:

REMOVAL:

1. Relieve the fuel system pressure, refer to FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.
2. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
3. Remove the filter bracket attaching screw and filter bracket.

4. Grasp the filter and fuel line fitting. Twist the quick-connect fitting 1/4 turn in each direction to loosen any dirt within the fitting.

WARNING: Safety glasses must be worn when using compressed air, as flying dirt particles may cause eye injury.

^ Using compressed air, blow out the dirt from the quick-connect fittings at both ends of the filter.

5. Disconnect the quick-connect fittings:
^ Squeeze the plastic tabs of the male end connector and pull the connection apart.
6. Remove fuel feed pipe nut from fuel filter. Drain any remaining fuel into an approved container.
7. Remove the fuel filter.

INSTALLATION:

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury:
^ Before installing a new filter, always apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male tube end of the filter and the fuel level meter assembly. This will ensure proper reconnection and prevent a possible fuel leak. (During normal operation, the O-rings located in the female connector will swell and may prevent proper reconnection if not lubricated.)
^ If a new fuel filter or filter line is nicked, scratched or damaged during installation, it must be replaced.

1. Remove the protective caps from the new filter.
2. Install the new plastic connector retainers on the filter inlet and outlet tubes.
^ Install in the same positions as on the old filter.
3. To connect the quick connect fittings:
a. Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male tube ends of the filter and of the fuel level meter assembly.
b. Push the connectors together to cause the retaining tabs/fingers to snap in place.
c. Once installed, pull on both ends of each connection to make sure they are secure.
4. Align fuel filter bracket on frame and install filter bracket attaching screw.
5. Install the fuel feed pipe nut to outlet side of filter. Tighten nut to 30 N-m (22 lb. ft.).
6. Tighten fuel filler cap.
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
8. Start vehicle and inspect for leaks.
9. Perform the idle learn procedure.
