Sunroof / Moonroof: Description and Operation

CIRCUIT OPERATION
The Sunroof Switch on the windshield header controls the position of the Sunroof. The Sunroof panel may be slid open or closed, or the rear of the panel may be tilted up into a vent position.

When the Sunroof Switch is moved to "BACK," the Back Relay energizes and the Sunroof Motor turns, driving the sunroof down (from vent) or back (from sliding). Operation in the forward direction is similar.

The Sunroof will automatically stop in the fully open or closed position when approaching from either the vent or sliding positions. The fully open or closed position is sensed by the Position Switch, which remains in the open position, except when the Sunroof is fully open or fully closed. For example, if the roof is closing from the vent position, the back relay will be energized and the Position Switch will be in the open position. When the roof is fully closed, the Position Switch moves to closed. The closed position is sensed by the Stop Relay which in turn energizes the Forward Relay. With both Forward and Back Relays energized, no voltage is applied to the Motor and it stops.

To continue operation to the sliding mode, the driver must release the Sunroof Switch. The Stop Relay will then open and when the Sunroof Switch is pushed again, the roof will slide open.
