Drive Range-Second Gear

Drive Range - Second Gear:

DRIVE RANGE-SECOND GEAR

CONVERTER CLUTCH - RELEASED
SECOND CLUTCH - APPLIED
INPUT CLUTCH - APPLIED
INPUT SPRAG - OVERRUNNING
1-2 BAND - APPLIED

As vehicle speed increases, governor pressure overcomes Throttle Valve (T.V.). pressure and 1-2 throttle valve spring pressure and opens the 1-2 shift valve. The 1-2 shift valve allows line pressure to fill the second clutch passage which is directed to the following:

Converter Clutch Apply Valve: When the solenoid is not electrically activated, the converter clutch is released. When the solenoid is electrically activated, converter clutch signal oil shifts the converter clutch apply valve and applies the converter clutch.

1-2 Servo Control Valve: Closes one orifice in the 1-2 servo apply passage to provide proper shift feel during a 3-2 coastdown.

Second Clutch Check Ball (8): Orifices the feed to the second clutch.

1-2 Accumulator: Cushions the second clutch apply by absorbing second clutch oil. The amount of cushion is controlled by the accumulator pressure.

Second Clutch Piston: Applies the second clutch.

SUMMARY
The converter clutch is released; the second clutch is driving the input carrier/reaction internal gear; the 1-2 band is holding the reaction sun gear and the input sun gear is overrunning the input sprag.
