Group Ref.: Body

Bulletin No.: 431011

Date: February, 1994

SUBJECT:
REAR WINDOW SQUEAKS AGAINST REVEAL MOLDING (ADD LUBRICANT TO MOLDING)

MODELS:
1993-94 OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS SUPREME

CONDITION:

Some owners may comment on a squeak noise coming from the rear window.

CAUSE:

Friction between rear window and reveal molding.

CORRECTION:

Refer to Service Manual, Section 10-2 and remove reveal moldings. Clean moldings with alcohol or glass cleaner and allow to dry. Apply a coating of lubricant, P/N 3634770.

1. Remove Quarter Upper Appliques from both sides of vehicle. See Figure 1.

2. Remove screw from each side of the upper reveal molding. See Figure 2.

3. Carefully, lift end of molding from body and slide a flat plastic tool or equivalent under the molding, see Figure 2. This will expose clips on the molding that mate with body side clips. The clips may begin to unsnap part way.

4. Use a plastic tool or equivalent to slide the molding clips sideways and disengage them from the bodyside clips. Then remove the molding from the vehicle. See Figure 2.

Note:
The molding clips can move along the length of the molding to align with the bodyside clips and then they snap down into them. If pushed sideways, the molding clips will disengage from the bodyside clips.

5. Apply GM Goodwrench* Lubricant, P/N 3634770 or 3M* Squeak Reduction Tape 06356, along the length of the molding rear edge which contacts the glass. See Figure 2.
6. Reinstall the Upper Reveal Molding. Installing attaching screw will help to locate the molding.
7. Remove screw from Side Reveal Molding and remove molding. See Figure 2.

8. Remove screws from Lower Reveal Molding and remove molding. See Figure 2.

9. Apply GM Goodwrench Lubricant, P/N 3634770, along the Lower Reveal Molding front edge which contacts the glass. See Figure 2.
10. Remove glass supports if present. See Figure 2, supports may be attached to a couple of the mounting locations for the Lower Reveal Molding.

11. If Side Reveal Molding Clip contacts glass or has witness marks where contact has been made, relocate clip forward 95 mm (3-3/4") to eliminate any contact. See Figure 2. Drill 1.5 mm (1/16") pilot hole or use an awl to punch a small pilot hole at the new location and install screw, P/N 4492963, to serve as the new locating stud for the side reveal molding clip.

12. Reinstall the lower reveal molding.

13. Reinstall the side reveal molding.

14. Apply GM Goodwrench Lubricant, P/N 3634770, along the length of the quarter upper applique edge which contacts the glass. See Figure 1.

15. Reinstall the quarter upper applique.
