Passkey II System
PASSkey(R) SYSTEMS PRECAUTIONSWhen servicing the lock cylinder mounted in the steering column, it will be necessary to remove portions of the inflatable restraint (S.I.R.) system that are column mounted.
Before working on vehicles equipped with Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (S.I.R.), remove the S.I.R. fuse and disable the S.I.R. system. Refer to the section on supplemental restraints for further information. Handle the S.I.R. components carefully.
Using a test ignition key with the incorrect key code pellet may cause the PASSkey(R) decoder module to reprogram itself with the newly inserted key. Use of test equipment, like the interrogator, could cause the decoder module to reprogram. Before connecting the interrogator to the ignition lock cylinder circuit, always verify vehicle key code and set the code into the interrogator using the key code knob. This will prevent programming an unprogrammed decoder module with an undesired key.
NOTE: The Vehicle Anti Theft system, or VATS, interrogator is an essential tool that can be used to read and generate PASSkey(R) key codes. The interrogator is tool number J-35628 (Kent-Moore tools). This tool is used to aid in diagnosis of all PASSkey(R) theft deterent systems.
UNIVERSAL THEFT DETERRENT (UTD) SYSTEMS PRECAUTIONS
Some theft deterent systems will automatically lock the vehicle doors when activated. Be sure to roll the windows down before serviceing the theft deterent system, to prevent being locked out of vehicle during test.
