Brake Fluid Pump: Service and Repair

PRESSURE MODULATOR VALVE (PMV) ASSEMBLY


Pressure Modulator Valve (PMV) Assembly:




Master Cylinder Reservoir Hose:




PMV Assembly And Bracket (With TCS):




PMV Assembly And Bracket (Without TCS):




Proportioner Valve And Brake Pipe Connections:






REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Air cleaner assembly.
2. Negative battery cable.
3. Electrical connectors from PMV assembly.
^ Fluid level switch.
^ Pump motor.
^ Valve block.
4. Clamp on reservoir hose to PMV reservoir.
^ Obtain a 15.5 mm (5/8 in.) plug to be used in Step 5.
5. Reservoir hose from PMV reservoir and plug hose to prevent escape of brake fluid.
6. Primary and secondary brake pipes from PMV assembly.
7. Brake pipes (4) from PMV assembly.
8. Raise vehicle.
9. Lower PMV assembly bolt.
10. Lower vehicle.
11. Harness strap.
12. Upper PMV assembly bolts.
13. PMV assembly.
^ When replacing PMV assembly, transfer necessary parts to new unit, refer to PMV Reservoir and PMV Bracket.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. PMV assembly.
2. Upper PMV bolts.

TIGHTEN
^ Bolts to 27 Nm (20 lb. ft.).

3. Harness strap.
4. Raise vehicle.
5. Lower PMV assembly bolt.

TIGHTEN
^ Bolt to 27 Nm (20 lb. ft.).

6. Lower vehicle.
7. Brake pipes (4) to PMV assembly.

TIGHTEN
^ Brake pipe to 15 Nm (11 lb. ft.).

8. Primary and secondary brake pipes to PMV assembly.

TIGHTEN
^ Brake pipes to 15 Nm (11 lb. ft.).

9. Reservoir hose to PMV reservoir.
10. Reservoir clamp.
11. Electrical connectors to PMV assembly.
^ Fluid level switch.
^ Pump motor.
^ Valve block.
12. Negative battery cable.

TIGHTEN
^ Battery cable to 15 Nm (11 lb. ft.).

13. Air cleaner assembly.
^ Fill brake fluid reservoir.
^ Bleed brake system.

CLEAN
^ Brake fluid from PMV area to prevent damage to vehicle components.
